DampRid…I love this stuff!

Disclaimer: I do not work for DampRid or any company affiliated  in any manner with their company. I am not receiving any compensation whatsoever, in the past, present or future for writing this.  I just REALLY like  DampRid and want to share with others!

I spilled a full cup of water in my car….oh, yes, the whole huge QuikTrip size cup. Of course, I hadn’t been able to  get every bit of moisture out and in the hot sun it began to stink from the mold! (Vinegar, Oust, Lysol….even diluted bleach….nothing helped.) No longer would I offer to let anyone ride in my car.

There was a $1 off DampRid coupon in the Sunday paper not too long ago. I had never heard of DampRid but when Dollar General had it on sale for $1.75 I bought it.

I just set the container in the car and left it alone. (I don’t drive it every day.) It didn’t happen immediately but soon I noticed there was no longer an odor and that little container had water in it!  Unbelieveable!!!

I decided to see what it would do for the humidity in my house. It took about 3 weeks to see the container have much moisture…but then it did. It was pulling this stuff out of the air and the room seemed  cooler.

Curious, I went on line and here is some of what I read:

DampRid prevents mold growth and musty odors by absorbing moisture.

One of the greatest contributors to indoor allergies is excess moisture and/or humidity within the home. It is important to maintain a dry, healthy interior environment in the home. Moisture that seeps into the home through cracks and crevices can lead to musty odors, mold and mildew that cause structural damage and lead to or aggravate allergies, asthma and other health concerns.

The  U.S. Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) warns that exposure to mold can cause symptoms such as nasal stuffiness, eye irritation, wheezing, headaches (many times throbbing), watery eyes, itchy throat, or skin irritation. Particularly susceptible are pregnant women, infants, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health conditions. Severe reactions can include asthma episodes, fever, shortness of breath, and mold infection in the lungs. The symptoms  of  black mold is more deadly to your system than a common cold.
Another symptom of black mold poisoning is excessive coughing and mucus when the black mold attaches to the throat and lungs causing irritation. The body creates more mucus to break it down in the system.

The key to keeping these dangerous elements from forming inside the home is moisture control. Removing excess moisture from the air protects valuables from moisture damage, eliminates musty odors, prevents mold and mildew and the resulting allergens, and creates fresher, healthier indoor air.

Dampness encourages mold spores which aggravate allergies. DampRid is great for reducing allergens, eliminating odors and absorbing moisture in small, enclosed spaces.

DampRid May Aid Allergy Suffers by helping eliminate moisture and humidity. Place DampRid moisture absorbers in bathrooms, kitchen, laundry areas, and closets  www.medicalnewstoday.com

A few places people say they have put a DampRid container:

  • a cabin where everything feels damp even when its sunny out for weeks.
  • antiques that have that musty, attic-y smell
  • a home that is up for sale….especially in the basement. You don’t want clients backing out the door.
  • Clothes closet to protect clothing and fabrics from collecting excess moisture.
  • Hall closet where you store your umbrella, coats and boots which might contain moisture from snow or rain.
  • Bathrooms
  • Laundry Rooms
  • Storage Closets and lockers
  • Garages
  • Boats/RVs/Classic Cars
  • Gym lockers

The upper section contains white calcium chloride pellets. When the bag is exposed to air, it absorbs excess moisture in the air, bringing humidity to an ideal and safe level of about 50 percent humidity.

The pellets dissolve into a salt solution, which drips into the lower section of the clear hanger bag. When all of the pellets have dissolved, you toss the DampRid into the garbage and replace it with a new package. It’s very easy to use, and it’s easy to figure out when it needs replacement. Designed to last about 60 days DampRid absorbs up to one quart of excess moisture from the air.

I was told by a more well to do person that very expensive homes have expensive electric dehumidifiers built in ……so I’m very excited bout this! Thank you, DampRid!
