Weeds and other rank growths of vegetation

Tulsa’s residential-use codes were passed to preserve property values and to guard the health of residents and the safety of residential property. Title 24

The following are hereby declared to be nuisances:

    Weeds and other rank growths of vegetation which: 

  • Exceed twelve (12) inches in height, or
  • Regardless of height, if the weeds or rank growths harbor, conceal, or invites deposits or accumulation of refuse or trash;
  • Harbors rodents or vermin;
  • Gives off unpleasant or noxious odors;
  • Is dead or diseased;


Neighbor’s grass is over twelve (12) inches in height or has rodents or Vermin? Report Violation or to the Department of Public Works Neighborhood Inspections Section 596-7698 or to the Mayor’s Action Center (596-2100)

If a notice to abate a nuisance is issued to a property owner ordering the property a to be cleaned of trash, or weeds or grass to be cut or mowed in accordance with the procedures provided for in this title, and if  any accumulations of trash or excessive weed or grass growth on said property occurring within six (6) months after the removal of trash or cutting or mowing of weeds or grass on the property may be summarily abated by the City, and that the costs of such summary abatement shall be assessed against the property owner and that a lien may be imposed on the property to secure such payment, all without further prior notice to the property owner, then any subsequent accumulations of trash or excessive weed or grass growth on the property occurring within a six (6) month period constitutes a public nuisance and may be summarily abated without further prior notice to the property owner.   Ord. Anyone in Tulsa who commits any nuisance or is an accessory, or who owns or occupies any property and knowingly permits the creation or continuation of any nuisance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor offense and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine of not more than ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($1,000.00), excluding costs, fees and assessments, or by imprisonment in the City Jail for a period of not more than ninety (90) days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
