TRENDS:The national candy of Brazil is becoming popular in the U.S.  One New York-based marketing firm, says brigadeiros, made with three ingredients (condensed milk, chocolate chips and butter) will be one of the top sweet trends for 2011.  Roll them in chocolate sprinkles and serve them in little paper cups for an elegant treat. Watch for them in candy shops.  2011: What’s new in food

BRIGADEIROS (They look like truffles, but are much simpler to make.)

1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup chocolate chips

1. Combine ingredients in a medium saucepan. Start cooking on medium-high. Once the chocolate has melted, turn heat down to medium. Stir constantly until the mixture turns a dark color and the mixture easily pulls away from the bottom and sides of the pan.

2. Pour mixture into a bowl and allow to cool completely at room temperature.

3. Form into 1-inch balls, then roll in chocolate sprinkles.

Note: Candy may be stored at room temperature. If stored in the refrigerator, it will harden.

Some recipes found on the internet call for cocoa powder instead of the chocolate chips.  Others say they roll theirs in chocolate sprinkles and serve in small  papers like cupcakes are baked in.
