WHAT YOU DON’T NEED CAN BE A WONDERFUL GIFT TO THOSE IN NEED.
As you look around your house and wonder where you can get rid of some things, why not find someone to whom the item you want to get rid of is extremely valuable. Your unwanted junk just might be a treasure to someone else!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To help find who might want the item you no longer wish to keep simply depress “ctrl” and then “f” and type in the item you want to get rid of. (Many are places to donate, while some will be places to sell your items.)
ANTIQUES AND COLLECTIBLES
It’s critical that you do your homework before selling to properly judge the value of the item even if it means get it properly appraised by a professional. That professional can then give you some advice on where to sell your item to get the best result, or even work with you (for a cut of the sales price, of course) to get it in front of the people who are most likely to buy it, whether it’s at auction or a private sale. Make sure you get your item in front of someone who explicitly wants it such as these places:
- RubyLane.com high-end antiques, collectibles, and vintage items. While some users find the fee structure to be a bit expensive (and even prohibitive in some cases) it really depends on what is being sold and how much the sellers build up their storefronts.
- tias.com offers a fixed price transactions in antiques, collectibles, arts and crafts, and jewelry. TIAS does have a minimum fee requirement, but if a seller’s TIAS commissions are higher than the minimum fee, then only the commission is paid.
- qflea.com
- webstore.com Scroll down and click on antiques and then on collectibles (Popular Ebay alternative- NO FEES!)
- artfire.com good collection of collectibles and vintage goods Unlike eBay, sellers pay no fees unless they choose to open a Pro account. And even then the sellers only pay a monthly subscription fee. There are several helpful features to the site including: SEO tools, a coupon feature, and Google Analytics integration. Artfire also receives high marks for customer service and the overall administration of the site.
The Internal Revenue Service taxes the proceeds from the sale of collectibles as capital gains, generally at a maximum rate of 28 percent. Under IRS regulations, collectibles include works of art, rugs, antiques, metals (such as gold, silver, and platinum bullion), gems, stamps, coins, or alcoholic beverages that you’ve held more than a year, like a bottle of first-growth Bordeaux. Your profit or loss is the difference between the basis, usually your purchase price, and the sale price. You must keep receipts that establish the basis.
BE CAREFUL Collectible crazes that ended up being a huge waste of money: Andy Warhol cookie jar, movie posters 80s and 90s , post 1970’s ball cards, Beanie Babies, Hummells, Cabbage Patch dolls, Beatles chewing gum cards, Precious Moments, Thomas Kincaid, Norman Rockwell, Franklin Mint, Danbury Mint, Hess Trucks (1980s and newer) Llardo, Rockwell plates. BOOKS- why collect and hang on to books when you can upload to an e-reader.
Find a buyer specifically looking for those books. You might find that it sells for much more than the .50 you would put on it at a garage sale. depends on their rarity -and desirability. Certain authors, editions and even titles command decent prices. But most books have little value just because they are old Even if you have a rare copy that ebayers will fight over, the buyer will likely not be able to give you full value. They have to make money on the item also.
- sell your books on Facebook by posting photos and small ads
- Amazon and eBay might work to get the most money back for books. Others say that Amazon’s used books store on the upside, no listing fees, which is nice, but they didn’t all end up selling, and the cut that Amazon ends up taking (if the book sells) can be surprising. (Even Gardner’s Used Books in Tulsa uses Amazon to sell books!)
- threadflip.com is a relatively new site or selling your clothes and accessories. with some restrictions on the kinds of clothes you can sell. It’s a great marketplace for your brand name and good-condition clothing. They offer a highly social shopping experience integrated with Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. Items that are not approved to be listed can be donated to a charity of your choice You fill out an application on their site and ship your clothes to them, and then they take care of the photography, pricing, selling to customers, etc. Your cut of the sale is 60% – and while some feel that Threadflip takes an enormous commission. However, given that all of the brick-and-mortar consignment shops in the area give you about 15%, that’s not a bad deal.
- etsy.com is a great place to sell Vintage clothing – ” (20 years or older). COLLECTIBLES (Be sure to see also ANTIQUES)
The Internal Revenue Service taxes the proceeds from the sale of collectibles as capital gains, generally at a maximum rate of 28 percent. Under IRS regulations, collectibles include works of art, rugs, antiques, metals (such as gold, silver, and platinum bullion), gems, stamps, coins, or alcoholic beverages that you’ve held more than a year, like a bottle of first-growth Bordeaux. Your profit or loss is the difference between the basis, usually your purchase price, and the sale price. You must keep receipts that establish the basis.
ELECTRONICS CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray and movies AND VIDEO GAMES
You can sell electronics at a yard sale. People want to touch and feel before purchasing and the buyer often has specific model numbers. However, the odds are you’ll get better money for them online where you will have the broadest audience possible. of people who really wants exactly what you have.
SELLING:
- decluttr.com buys every cd dvd and video game that you don’t want anymore (free shipping and no fees!) Sell to people living in your area- selling to your neighbors saves shipping (Kim Komando warns: The second caveat is that while the app gives you a quote on how much it will pay for each item, the company reserves the right to lower the price if, say, the CD inner sleeve is missing. The downside: Once your items have been shipped to Decluttr, you will not get them back. Decluttr pays for the shipping and keeps all merchandise that you send)
- secondspin.com/ sell used CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray and movies. Will take your entire collection for one price shipment and will reimburse you for the shipping- buys games. You may be able to sell the items for more on EBay but there a no costs to use secondspin other than the cost to mail the items to them.
EYEGLASSES-
If you have reading glasses, sunglasses or prescription glasses that you are not using anymore….. (And yes, even drugstore reading glasses!)
Donating your old eyeglasses can save someone in a developing nation from unemployment. With the price of glasses exceeding three months’ average salary in some African countries, donated eyeglasses are the only feasible way to bring sight to many visually impaired.
Many people have been helped with glasses that others no longer need, which bring sight to many. Sunglasses offer valuable protection as many villagers are farmers/fishermen and have no eye protection from the harmful rays of the sun, yet they have no access to sunglasses otherwise. Those who live on the river, like in the Amazon, they especially need sunglasses to protect their eyes from the sun damage that can lead to cataracts. We are very lucky in the United States that we have easy access to cataract surgery. Unfortunately, a large part of the world does not have the same privilege we do, so if they develop cataracts they lose their vision unless they are wealthy and can travel and pay for it.
SoulteamMissions.com partners with churches, the government and mobile eye clinics then travel to remote villages where there is little or no access to health care to provide free eye exams and eye health checks to all ages. Several thousand glasses each summer are taken to communities, such as Guatemala. Every day, lines began in the early morning hours and there are hundreds of people waiting by the time we open. Many people all over the world who have never had the opportunity to have a pair of glasses to correct their vision have been blessed by donations and have glasses for the first time in their life! 1,500+ pairs of glasses were handed out in Guatemala and in Kenya it was well over 3, 000 pairs of glasses. We run out quickly of reading glasses and sunglasses.
Local eye doctors’ offices fix donated glasses and properly prep them to be re-homed to someone in need.
Reading glasses, sunglasses or prescription glasses can be dropped off at any Success Vision or Dr. Presley & Associates location.
Since you’re selling to your local community, you can specify that you want the buyer to pick up the item. However, if you have the means, offering delivery will often produce quicker sales.
- People know they can get good deals on the big items at garage sale at the end of the day because large furniture usually doesn’t sell well at a garage sale. DONATING You no longer want that outgrown baseball mitt or old tennis racket, but there are countless kids who do. Now, through : sportsgift.org, your old sports equipment can find it’s way to needy kids in the United States and abroad. If you haven’t gone camping in the last two years, get rid of the old tent in your garage. If you haven’t skied since 2002, sell your skis. It is amazing the sporting equipment people keep around, yet never use. Why not rent since the models you will rent are likely newer and better than the old stuff you’ve kept around simply because you think you might go camping or skiing next year, or the year after, or maybe the year after that. Sell these things and put the money into a jar for the day you actually go to the slopes.
TOYS
Do your research-especially with toys-before just throwing them up online somewhere, or else you may be selling a rare collectible for five bucks in a lot of “old toys” on Craigslist. Many vintage wood toys are solid enough to be passed from generation to generation. Clean them or plastic toys with a mixture of bleach or vinegar and hot water.
SELLING
As long as the items you have to sell are in good condition and not collectibles, here are some places to get decent cash for them:
- free classifieds and set up your own online store for free!
- Garage sales– Wooden blocks and toy cars are always cheap at garage sales and community yard sales so you might want to sell elsewhere.
- eBay has a wide audience of people looking specifically for individual toys and games at decent prices. If you do your research, it’s also a great place to offload items that have become collectibles that you want to get rid of. Again, mind the fees from eBay and Paypal when you do this, and set your prices accordingly so you get the most bang for your buck
- webstore.com Scroll down and click on toys (Popular Ebay alternative- NO FEES!)
- Action figures puzzles, small toys Amazon.com Marketplace is a great esource for selling toys and games, you might be surprised to know. Since they’re items with clear names and descriptions, you can sell them easily as long as they’re in decent condition and able to be boxed up and sent out. Action figures out of their packaging or a full playset that’s been put together already might be a tougher sell, but if you have some games still in their boxes, puzzles, or small toys easily packaged, it’s a great way to go. Again, just mind the selling fees.
- Family-to-Family sale in your community where parents can get together to swap and sell items they no longer need for their children for items they do need.
Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Matthew 19:21NIV
~
Why Generosity Is Encouraged Paraphrased 2 Corinthians 9:6-15 Because God loves a cheerful giver he doesn’t want us to feel obligated or pressured, but to give what is in our heart. When we sow sparingly we reap sparingly and when we sow generously we reap generously. God will enrich us in every way, providing all we need, multiplying what we have, with plenty left over to generously share with those in need. And through your generosity providing for the needs of God’s people, it produces more and more prayers of thanksgiving to God. Sharing generously proves that you believe the message of the gospel of Christ and brings honor and praise to God. Your righteousness results in enlarging the harvest. The hearts of those who were in need will go out to you and they will pray for you with deep affection because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable and priceless gift! It is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.” In a nutshell: God gives you seed to do His work to have enough to eat and to share and increase the fruits of your righteousness and they will glorify God.
~
Every gift we have- finances, time, health, relationships, talents comes from Him. He entrusts each gift to us and allows us to give them back as our offering. He could directly send provision to each person without our involvement. Yet often, He gives us the blessing of being part of His answer. We aren’t the source of grace or wisdom, but He puts His resources into our hands so that we can touch them briefly and then pass them along. We can thank Him for the blessings that come into our lives and then look for a way to share. – Sharon Hinck
~
When we have it we share with those in need and THEN when we are in need THEY are then supposed to share. 2 Corinthians 8:13-15
SEE FOR YOURSELF. HERE IT IS IN THREE TRANSLATIONS
*For it is not [intended] that others be relieved [of their responsibility] and that you be burdened [unfairly], but that there be equality [in sharing the burden]— at this present time your surplus [over necessities] is going to supply their need, so that [at some other time] their surplus may be given to supply your need, that there may be equality; as it is written [in Scripture], “He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little did not lack.” AMPLIFIED: biblegateway.com
*For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened: But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack. KJV
*For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, but that as a matter of fairness your abundance at the present time should supply their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be fairness. As it is written, “Whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack.” ESV ~
Estate liquidators can take some of the work off of your hands, promote your sale and can help control crowds at the sale but they take a huge chunk of your proceeds from an estate sale, with some as high as 40%. You may have enough family members to help with this so won’t need an estate liquidator.
If you do decide to use an estate sale company interview at least three companies to see what their plan is. Get their credentials, ask about their training and if they are an appraiser. Check with the BBB to see if they have a history of serious complaints. Do they charge additional fees for advertising, cleanup or appraisal? (Be careful as some will offer to “haul off” your unsold items, then put back items they want so they can’t be sold and then haul them to their own home where they e-Bay them!)
Take pictures of items so you know what you had before the sale.
Sell antiques, carpets and furniture from your home which allows people to easily visualize them in their own homes.
Tools and kitchen supplies appeal to buyers.
They usually also know local antique buyers to sell your items to so make sure your contract doesn’t allow the estate liquidator to set back items to buy and then resell for themselves, later so they make a large profit.)
by Marni Jameson, AARP Bulletin, March 2016|
Downsize or Declutter Your Home
Purge items from the top rooms first.
Start with your attic. When you’re up against your memories, remember: You’re simplifying your life, not erasing your past.
This article was adapted from AARP’s Downsizing the Family Home: What to Keep, What to Let Go by Marni Jameson (Sterling Publishing Co., 2016), available at aarp.org/downsizing and bookstores.
1. Wedding dress-If no one is going to wear it again, have some nice pillows made out of it. Or save it to wrap bouquets in your daughter’s wedding. Or clip off a piece of fabric and display it in a frame with a photo of your wedding day.
2. Love letters-Keep them if they’re yours. But if they’re your parents’, they’re not really yours: They’re part of a romance between your parents, never meant for you. Burn them ceremonially and send the love back into the universe.
3. Boxes of photos –
Throw out landscape shots. Pick three with people in them from each vacation or holiday. With the rest, pull out the great shots. Send the keepers to an online scanning service to store in the cloud, or make albums.
4. China set -If you like it, use it. If you don’t, sell it through eBay. Be realistic, though. Not long ago, fine china commanded a nice price. But today’s consumers want fine tableware that’s safe in the microwave and the dishwasher.
5. Antiques -Take high-end antiques to a local antiques dealer, who can take them to an auction house. Find out what the house’s take is upfront (typically 10 to 15 percent) as well as where it will place the starting bid.
6. Greeting cards -Their job is to greet you over the holidays. They did that. Now you throw them away. Or put them in the recycle bin. If you saved the envelopes, you can go through them to update your address book. They can be cut into postcards and mailed with a postcard stamp, if you cut off the side where the signature is.
7. Old appliances -Like a yard sale online, Craigslist is the right venue for usable appliances. With local buyers, you skip shipping costs. Tip: Sell only to buyers who pay cash and will pick up the item. When they come, have someone with you.
8. Your kids’ stuff -It’s not your job to save everything from your children’s lives. Box up what belongs to the kids, and send it to them. Or tell them to claim it now — with the date you plan to have the house cleared out — or never.
9. Books-If you’re going to read it, or it just feels too much like family (The Cat in the Hat), put it on your bookshelf. If not, give it away. You can drop books off at a library or donation center. Or call around for a charity that will pick up.
10. Luggage -sell it at your garage sale or donate it to a charity such as a women’s homeless shelter.
11. Hand-me-down furniture -Consignment stores They sell it and usually split it 30/70 (30 percent to you), but sometimes 40/60.
12. Clothes If you can’t answer “Do I love it?” “Do I need it?” or “Will I use it?” If not, then out it goes. It doesn’t matter whether “I only wore it once,” “It’s in good condition” or “It was expensive.” Then make three piles: toss, donate, sell.
13. Jewelry – give family members their choice after you decide what to keep. Sell the rest on eBay. Polish the jewelry and light it well, then photograph items in high resolution from several angles. Include a close-up of any label or stamp.
14. Art- you might need an appraiser who specializes in that area. You don’t want to give away that ugly painting or sculpture only to find out it later sold for $50,000 at an auction.
15. Old tennis racket- Living your life for one day in the future robs you of today. If that racket is old and outdated, give it away or sell it on Craigslist.
16. Collection- Select three pieces to keep, photograph the rest, and put the photos in an album alongside the display. EBay is the place to sell smaller, more valuable items like collectibles.
17. Musical instruments- Craigslist or put it on your neighborhood Facebook page; ask your kids’ former music teacher. Some schools no longer will be buying band instruments.
18. Closet – Rather than fishing through and deciding what to eliminate, take everything out, down to the bare walls. Then physically put back items. Choosing to keep, rather than choosing to let go, will net in clinging to fewer things.
19. Paperwork-Scan important papers — birth and marriage certificates, school records, wills and other legal documents — electronically, and back up your hard drive. Store originals, organized, in a lockbox or sealed plastic tubs.
20. Household junk-Rags, cans of rusty nails, buckets, vinegar: Hold a garage sale. Put price tags on items: $5, $50, make an offer. Post signs in the neighborhood, and advertise on Craigslist, Estatesales.com and Pennysaver.com.
If you have pictures and put it on your Facebook or you could put the pictures on Craig’s list or if you have a blog to show it on Pinterest….with a story about each item.
If you and a girlfriend or two take it to a Flea Market, send the blog to your friends and invite them out to see you on Saturday. Have some cookies or something. What a great way to connect with friends you haven’t seen in awhile. .
the more we share with others…the more we have.
Charitable donations, can reward your generosity with a tax deduction…if you itemize.
(If you need an appraisal if you aren’t sure of the value you can find an accredited person property appraiser at appraisers.org. The fees may range from $125-$300 per hour. (An estate sale or auction company that you hire might have qualified appraisers on staff but be sure to ask about theor credentials…such as the American Society of Appraisers, the International Society of Appraisers Assoc and ask how long they have been conducting appraisals.
“Where will I put all my stuff?” your neighborhood yard sale, eBay, or Craigslist.
Google: city data how to get rid of junk That’s right—sell it and take that money to the bank!
Storage units are usually a waste of money and just delay the inevitable.
Ask someone with no vested interest in your stuff to help you as they can help you see that you should only keep worthwhile things.
(An assistant can help you with lifting and moving, while a liquidation company or someone from a senior mover company can help sort out the clutter.
Ask friends for a referral to hire a professional organizer or check outNapo.net They run $30-$80 an hour or by the project.
Keep only what you love most. If you have a large collection keep a couple of your most cherished items (most loved and most used) as keepsakes.
Take digital pictures of the rest and of any awards you had on the wall and scan them in so you have the memories without the dust catchers!
Get rid of anything that is worn or outdated, unless it has strong sentimental value..
– Pre-estate sale and advertise it as “My loss, your gain”.
– Sell as props for movies your vintage items or at a Repurposers Faire.
– To get rid of stuff a site called “What would you do with this?” to get rid of stuff, built by someone who is really good
– researchers from Birmingham City University’s School of English studied the language for 68,000 items on eBay, around 15 million words and found which ones bring more money.”We’ve found that the language used in eBay descriptions really does have an impact on whether items sell and for how much.” Next time you’re selling any of these items, use these words to rake in the big bucks!
Gent. Use in place of “man.” Using the polite “gent” could earn you up to 50% more.
Authentic. Use in place of “genuine.”
On-ear. Use in place of “in-ear” when referring to headphones.
Resistance. Use in place of “resistant.”
big items, like cars: stay away from using “secondhand,” but it’s OK to use when selling smaller items like DVDs.
Selling stuff on eBay: the secret to selling items faster or convincing buyers to pay a higher price for all of your listings. you can choose to auction off your items or set a Buy It Now price. If you’re using the Buy It Now option, you can also enable a negotiation feature that allows prospective buyers to make you offers that you can reject, accept or counter. (Say a seller of an iPhone may list a price of $1,000, and someone comes back with a counteroffer of $800, to which the seller could then accept or make a new offer. This could go on for about three rounds -eBay rules- and may last about a week.)
Not all listings are created equally, though. In fact, researchers at Berkeley have discovered that you can sell items faster or earn more money just by changing the way you price your items.
Three guys looked at previous sales on eBay and found some interesting patterns:items priced with round numbers (like $1,000) receive lower counter offers but sell quicker, while items priced with non-round numbers will receive a higher counteroffer but could take longer to sell. For example, the graph suggests that you can actually end up with a higher counteroffer if you list $998 rather than $1,000. In other words, you are better off initially asking for a lower price if price was all you cared about.the researchers stated that items priced at multiples of $100 received offers 5% to 8% lower, but they also received those offers 6 to 11 days sooner. The same effect occurred on prices that ended with 99.
What’s the secret to success on eBay? First, it helps if you know what to sell. ProductGenie is a research tool that shows you what’s popular on eBay. With this insight, you’ll have a much better idea of what items will make money. It works like a search engine that scours through all the eBay selling categories. The search results can show you:
Most Recent Sales – The 7,000 most recent products sold. For each item, you’ll see the price, quantity sold, and listing type (auction or fixed price).
Top Brands – The 7,000 most recent products sold, separated by brand.
Fastest Selling – Compares “listed date” with “sold date” to calculate the products that move the quickest. For each item, you’ll see the price and listing type (auction or fixed price).
Say you want to know how well a Coach purse will sell. You can use ProductGenie to search the category, price range or condition in which the bag fits. The results will tell you whether or not the purse is in high demand. ProductGenie does cost money but there is a free three-day trial period. After the trial ends, this valuable service is $4 a month but you can cancel at any time. Click the blue button below to try it for yourself!
There are many ways to make money with Facebook. If you have products or services to sell, it is best to make sure that your brand is visible in areas where your audience is present.
The group post + Email opt-in method. One of the most basic methods of making money on Facebook is a twist on the whole “landing page” method of internet marketing. You can create a simple landing page that provides a valuable offer. For example, let’s say you’re in the pets niche, so you offer to send people a free book on how to groom their cat in exchange for their signing up for your email list. While the original offer is free, this increases the likelihood that your prospects will be willing to buy your products or services.
Next, make a Facebook profile (or use your existing one). Join all of the category-related groups that you can find on Facebook and post your landing page on there, telling people that they can get something free for signing up. Obviously, you must do this in a way that isn’t spammy, otherwise, your efforts will backfire.
Once they sign up, you can send them niche-related affiliate offers periodically and make money from that. If you already have your product or service, you can promote that. You can also alternatively just post your affiliate link to relevant products in the groups, but this is more likely to get you banned.
Networking: The slow method If you already have a business going, you can make more money by simply networking on Facebook. This is a “slow and steady” approach that can provide significant results over time. The key is to focus on having conversations with potential customers that don’t focus on selling.
Use your platform to position yourself as a resource. Answer common questions that your customers have. Use your expertise to provide value. When you position yourself effectively, people will feel more comfortable with spending their money with your business. For example, if you own a company that builds fancy custom bicycles, you might join cycling-related groups. Give useful information and answer people’s questions. Once you have built a good reputation, then casually mention that you make custom bicycles. If people ask about a certain kind of bike, mention that you make them and give a bit of information.
Before you know it, people will be coming to you when they need your product or service.
Use paid ads to boost your business If you have some capital, then buying paid ads or boosting your promotional posts on your business Facebook page can go a long way. This is an art in and of itself, but with enough experimentation, you can get tons of sales or opt-ins if your ads are targeted enough.Making money on Facebook requires some creativity and some patience when learning the ropes, but it can pay off big in the long run since you will have a huge audience.
Ebay Buyers: What makes it better than buying a product at a discount store or big box? When it comes to eBay, it’s the human element. When a store offers you a deal on a product, there’s usually a plan behind that deal. The store isn’t just giving you a discount, they’re trying to get you in the door.
On eBay, sellers are usually just trying to turn their unwanted junk into cash which means that many of these eBay listings can be vulnerable to the same mistakes that any person could make. While a big chain store has an entire department dedicated to pricing their products, an eBayer in a rural county just doesn’t have quite the same resources. How does that make you money?
1. Take advantage of spelling mistakes- “Fat Fingers,” (fatfingers.com) eBay’s mobile app (referencing the fact that it’s tough to type words into a touch screen. People can often mistype their item description, making it tougher to search an item.) means that sellers can simply take a quick cellphone picture of something they want to sell, type a description into a box and post.
Because people who put the smallest amount of effort into making their sale it might actually be hidden from your search. With Fat Fingers all you have to do is type a popular product or brand into the search bar and the site automatically searches popular misspellings for that item. If, for example, someone was to spell Nike as Noke (the “I” key is pretty close to the “O” key, after all) then their product would be listed in the wrong place. You wouldn’t be able to find it if you were searching for Nike products.With Fat Fingers, you can account for mistakes like Noke when trying to get the best deal possible. Fat Fingers is a free download for both Apple and Android users.
2. Buy the box o’ stuff Did your mom ever throw away your favorite childhood collection? Whether you liked comic books, magazines or stuffed animals – chances are good that that collection might be worth a whole lot at this point.eBay is a favorite place for all of these collections. You’ll often see boxes full of all of these items available on eBay, usually priced much lower than collectors would sell it for.If you know a lot about something that might end up in one of these boxes – say, baseball cards – you might want to search for boxes like these on eBay. Even if you’re not looking to make money, there’s always some amazing stuff to find when hunting down a closet cleanup sale.If you need to hunt through lots of listings to find the box o’ stuff that you’re looking for, you might want to use a visual tool. Rummage is a great way to do that and will organize all eBay listings by image. (f you want to buy something on eBay, chances are you won’t buy it without first looking at the product images. But it takes more than a few clicks to get the whole picture.
Rummage the eBay buyer’s best friend.Rummage is a better way to search for products on eBay. It’s focused on providing users with a visual browsing tool; in fact, it displays its search results much like Pinterest does. Just type what you want in the search field. From here, you will be presented with larger photos, the high bid, how many bids have been placed, and time left in the auction. Want to see more details? Just click on the image where you can get more information about that item.)
3. Check your last-minute buys Another neat feature that you can find on fatfingers.com is “last minute.” These are any deals that are ending within the next few minutes. This can be one of the most effective ways to pan for digital gold because it s so simple. Listing something on eBay is often a last resort. The person who owns whatever they’re selling usually just wants to get rid of their listing. If an item sells for less than it’s worth, that’s usually all right by most sellers. Keeping an eye on last-minute deals can mean buying something for a whole lot less than it’s actually worth.You can find this on Fat Fingers or you can specialize your searches. Why specialize? Same reason as buying the box o’ stuff, really. Knowing about particularly valuable items usually means that you’re a step ahead of every other bargain hunter on eBay.
BUYERS BEWARE: One gentleman who was victimized by a scam while looking for some unique tools on eBay. The posting said that the parts were located in China and would need to be shipped overseas. The parts listed at a steep discount well below their market value,made him feel that he was getting a good deal when he was really being scammed. He purchased the tools and waited for them to arrive, but when they never came assuming they had been lost in shipping he reached out to the seller, who offered to send Masters a replacement. Of course, the replacement tools never arrived so he contacted the seller again. He was told that he had been issued a refund and instructed to confirm the payment had arrived in his PayPal account. But the payment wasn’t there. This played out over a few months, with all of the back-and-forth. By the time Masters realized he wasn’t getting the tools, or his money back, it was too late for eBay to get involved either. eBay does offer a 30-day money back guarantee, but that didn’t help in this instance. PayPal has recently extended its time limit, allowing users up to six months to dispute a charge on their account. But this scam works because the scammers draw the process out. By the time you realize it’s happening, those deadlines may have passed. In the end, there was nothing the poor guy could do to reclaim the money he lost.
Appliances: When you buy a large appliance, most retailers will haul away the old one. ApplianceSmart.com, Best Buy, Sears, and some utilities participate in the EPA’s Responsible Appliance Disposal Program, donate appliances large and small in good condition, check with your local Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Salvation Army, Vietnam Veterans of America, or other charities.
