ANTIQUES AND COLLECTIBLES

It’s  critical that you do your homework before selling to properly judge the value of the item even if it means  get it properly appraised by a professional. That professional can then give you some advice on where to sell your item to get the best result, or even work with you (for a cut of the sales price, of course) to get it in front of the people who are most likely to buy it, whether it’s at auction or a private sale. Make sure you get your item in front of someone who explicitly wants it such as these places:

  • RubyLane.com high-end antiques, collectibles, and vintage items. While some users  find the fee structure to be a bit expensive (and even prohibitive in some cases) it really depends on what is being sold and how much the sellers build up their storefronts.

NOTE: lead crystal. ie Pb is a deadly substance that mucks about with your brain. Instructions that come with the glasses say you need to first pour some citrus into them to leach out a lot of the Pb into something you’re NOT drinking. After that trace amounts will continue to leach out. It might be better to stick with regular glass wine glasses.

ELECTRONICS CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray and movies AND VIDEO GAMES

You can sell electronics at a yard sale. People want to touch and feel before purchasing and the buyer often has specific model numbers. However, the odds are you’ll get better money for them online where you will have the broadest audience possible. of people  who really wants exactly what you have.

SELLING:

  • decluttr.com buys every cd dvd and video game that you don’t want anymore (free shipping and no fees!) Sell to people living in your area- selling to your neighbors saves shipping       (Kim Komando warns: The second caveat is that while the app gives you a quote on how much it will pay for each item, the company reserves the right to lower the price if, say, the CD inner sleeve is missing. The downside: Once your items have been shipped to Decluttr, you will not get them back. Decluttr pays for the shipping and keeps all merchandise that you send)
  • secondspin.com/ sell used CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray and movies. Will take your entire collection for one price shipment and will reimburse you for the shipping- buys games. You may be able to sell the items for more on EBay but there a no costs to use secondspin other than the cost to mail the items to them.
  • webstore.com Scroll down and click on DVD  or video games(Popular Ebay alternative- NO FEES!)
  • Glyde.com video games, movies, iPads, iPhones, Macbooks, tablets, broken phones, consoles,   cameras (if selling )

However, you will need to list them individually and manage the listings in order to make a few measly bucks, if anything at all. Amazon takes a nice cut.
  • Ebay- you will have to spend time managing the listings  after you  list them individually you will have to manage the listings. However, you might offer a few DVDs in bundles of 10 . One guys said that earned him roughly $15 per hour for his time compared to selling locally.

EYEGLASSES-

If you have reading glasses, sunglasses or prescription glasses that you are not using anymore….. (And yes, even drugstore reading glasses!)

Donating your old eyeglasses can save someone in a developing nation from unemployment. With the price of glasses exceeding three months’ average salary in some African countries, donated eyeglasses are the only feasible way to bring sight to many visually impaired.

Many people have been helped with glasses that others no longer need, which bring sight to many. Sunglasses offer valuable protection as many villagers are farmers/fishermen and have no eye protection from the harmful rays of the sun, yet they have no access to sunglasses otherwise. Those who live on the river, like in the Amazon, they especially need sunglasses to protect their eyes from the sun damage that can lead to cataracts. We are very lucky in the United States that we have easy access to cataract surgery. Unfortunately, a large part of the world does not have the same privilege we do, so if they develop cataracts they lose their vision unless they are wealthy and can travel and pay for it.

SoulteamMissions.com partners with churches, the government and mobile eye clinics then travel to remote villages where there is little or no access to health care to provide free eye exams and eye health checks to all ages. Several thousand glasses each summer are taken to communities, such as Guatemala. Every day, lines began in the early morning hours and there are hundreds of people waiting by the time we open. Many people all over the world who have never had the opportunity to have a pair of glasses to correct their vision have been blessed by donations and have glasses for the first time in their life! 1,500+ pairs of glasses were handed out in Guatemala and in Kenya it was well over 3, 000 pairs of glasses. We run out quickly of reading glasses and sunglasses.

Local eye doctors’ offices fix donated glasses and properly prep them to be re-homed to someone in need.

Reading glasses, sunglasses or prescription glasses can be dropped off at any Success Vision or Dr. Presley & Associates location.

Culture may play a role in how much you make this way, and be prepared to haggle and negotiate. You’ll also have to deal with the hassle of getting the item to the sale in order to sell it, but it might be worth it to deal with a large number of buyers and set your own price  or organize a collaborative sale with your neighbors for your block, community, or building. Together you’ll be able to turn a tidy profit on some old large items. Alternatively, you can do it yourself and have an open-house moving sale, and let people come in and make offers on the things you want to get rid of. Just make sure to keep an eye on a bunch of strangers in your home,

If you haven’t gone camping in the last two years, get rid of the old tent in your garage. If you haven’t skied since 2002, sell your skis. It is amazing the sporting equipment people keep around, yet never use. Why not rent since  the models you will rent are likely newer and better than the old stuff you’ve kept around simply because you think you might go camping or skiing next year, or the year after, or maybe the year after that. TOYS
Do your research-especially with toys-before just throwing them up online somewhere, or else you may be selling a rare collectible for five bucks in a lot of “old toys” on Craigslist. Many vintage wood toys are solid enough to be passed from generation to generation. Clean them or plastic toys with a mixture of bleach or vinegar and hot water.

SELLING

As long as the items you have to sell are in good condition and not collectibles, here are some places to get decent cash for them:

  • free classifieds and set up your own online store for free!
  • Garage sales–  Wooden blocks and toy cars are always cheap at garage sales and       community yard sales so you might want to sell elsewhere.
  • eBay has a wide audience of people looking specifically for individual toys and games at decent prices. If you do your research, it’s also a great place to offload items that have become collectibles that you want to get rid of. Again, mind the fees from eBay and Paypal when you do this, and set your prices accordingly so you get the most bang for your buck
  • webstore.com Scroll down and click on toys (Popular Ebay alternative- NO FEES!)
  • Action figures puzzles, small toys Amazon.com Marketplace is a great esource for selling toys and games, you might be surprised to know. Since they’re items with clear names and descriptions, you can sell them easily as long as they’re in decent condition and able to be boxed up and sent out. Action figures out of their packaging or a full playset that’s been put together already might be a tougher sell, but if you have some games still in their boxes, puzzles, or small toys easily packaged, it’s a great way to go. Again, just mind the selling fees.
  • Family-to-Family sale in your community where parents can get together to swap and sell items they no longer need for their children for items they do need.
  • tulsafleamarket.net  Tulsa’s original and finest flea market.

Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Matthew 19:21NIV

Why Generosity Is Encouraged Paraphrased 2 Corinthians 9:6-15 Because God loves a cheerful giver he doesn’t want us to feel obligated or pressured, but to give what is in our heart. When we sow sparingly we reap sparingly and when we sow generously we reap generously. God will enrich us in every way, providing all we need, multiplying what we have, with plenty left over to generously share with those in need. And through your generosity providing for the needs of God’s people, it produces more and more prayers of thanksgiving to God. Sharing generously proves that you believe the message of the gospel of Christ and brings honor and praise to God. Your righteousness results in enlarging the harvest. The hearts of those who were in need will go out to you and they will pray for you with deep affection because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable and priceless gift! It is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.” In a nutshell: God gives you seed to do His work to have enough to eat and to share and increase the fruits of your righteousness and they will glorify God.

Every gift we have- finances, time, health, relationships, talents comes from Him. He entrusts each gift to us and allows us to give them back as our offering. He could directly send provision to each person without our involvement. Yet often, He gives us the blessing of being part of His answer. We aren’t the source of grace or wisdom, but He puts His resources into our hands so that we can touch them briefly and then pass them along. We can thank Him for the blessings that come into our lives and then look for a way to share. – Sharon Hinck

When we have it we share with those in need and THEN when we are in need THEY are then supposed to share. 2 Corinthians 8:13-15

SEE FOR YOURSELF. HERE IT IS IN THREE TRANSLATIONS

*For it is not [intended] that others be relieved [of their responsibility] and that you be burdened [unfairly], but that there be equality [in sharing the burden]— at this present time your surplus [over necessities] is going to supply their need, so that [at some other time] their surplus may be given to supply your need, that there may be equality; as it is written [in Scripture], “He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little did not lack.” AMPLIFIED: biblegateway.com
*For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened: But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack. KJV
*For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, but that as a matter of fairness your abundance at the present time should supply their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be fairness. As it is written, “Whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack.” ESV ~

…if any would not work, neither should he eat. 2 Thessalonians 3:10
